History of the CMSA Fort Wayne, IN Chapter

The early records are sketchy, but the original formation was in 1992 under the name of the Michiana Chapter.  Records show in 1995 Patricia Freeland was president and Gail Keuneke was Treasurer.  Sherrie Brewington was Executive Director in 1995 and Nancy O’Brien was the Vice Presidnet.  Sharon Smith was Secretary and Sheri Day was also an officer.  Another original founder was Janet Allen.

Michele Lee, Manager, Client Services of CMI (Consulting Management Innovators) the company who began managing CMSA National in the mid 1990’s stated the same folks were helping year after year as the group struggled to find other leadership.  Carolyn Lichti, of Menonite Mutural Aid, was President until April 2002.  Michele states she started with CMI in 2000 and vaguely remembers assisting with the chapter dissolution which was signed by Sharon Honaker who was either Past President or Acting President and Carolyn Schwarte, Treasurer, on October 31, 2002

From the Treasurer’s records it appears that after the dissolution of the Michiana Chapter, the Fort Wayne Chapter became established.  There are no breaks in the ledger and the checking balance of $7,963.85 was transferred to the Fort Wayne Chapter.

Names of those members found in the Treasurer’s ledger in 2002 are:  Janet Allen, Nancy Gemmer, Nila Mumby, Vonda Lee Ogg, Dorian Maples, Mickey Tanesky, Deb Andrews and Sheri Day.

The chapter has had it’s share of lean years, but has consistently maintained a membership of at least 30.  This in and of itself speaks to the dedication of those case managers in the area who saw the need for a networking organization and a platform for the education of those members and other case managers in the community.  As the role of the case manager has evolved so too has the CMSA Chapter of Fort Wayne, IN.

In 2011 the chapter was struggling to find direction.  Before the year was over we began to reevaluate where the chapter was and what it was we needed to do to revitalize the energy and mission of the chapter.  We have a momentum arising once again and tonight is evidence of this momentum.  We have had a very successful past two years and planning is in the works for a successful 2014.
